Bakewell Photographic Circle’s Annual Dinner was held at the Wheatsheaf Hotel at Bakewell on the 19th May. 32 Members and guests attended and enjoyed a most entertaining evening, an exhibition of the trophy winning prints, slides and digital projected images, and entertainment provided by members Richard Corkill and Linda Dyson. Linda Dyson arranged the Dinner and thanks are due to the many members who helped to make the evening a success.
The Circle has just been presented with a new trophy by Tony Greenfield and Garry Wingrove, the Chairman. This is the Peak Trophy and was designed by them in crystal and made by craftsmen in China. The trophy is in the form of a compact digital camera, mounted on an oak box made by Ray Carter of Youlgreave. The trophy is to be awarded annually for the best digital images of the year. This year it was won by Jim Edmondson, and seen here is the presentation of the new trophy by Tony Greenfield
The other trophies were presented by Mrs. Mary Wingrove, the Chairman’s wife, seen here presenting the Rhoda Paget trophy for the best slides jointly won by Jackie Ellis and Ian Daisley. The other trophies were won by Jim Edmondson, who won the Chairman’s Trophy for best colour prints, the Marchant Brooks Trophy for best monochrome prints, the Seville trophy for colour print of the year, the Whirlow Rose Bowl for monochrome print of the year and the D & B Carnelly trophy for the maximum points gained, The Wright Trophy for the best monochrome print in the Theme competition was won by Garry Wingrove, The Kut Rite Rose Bowl for the best colour print in the Theme competition was won by Ian Daisley and the Jubilee Rose Bowl for the best slide in the Theme competition was won by Mrs. Jackie Ellis, the Mellor Rose Bowl for the best slide of the year was won by Les Nixon and The Committee’s award, the Mettam Memorial trophy, which is presented each year to the most promising new member and for services to the Circle, was won by Rob Askew.

Seen here is Jim Edmondson receiving the Bolsover Trophy for the best Monochrome print in the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation Annual exhibition. Jim received the award from Councillor Brian Wombwell the Worshipful Mayor of Broxtowe Borough Council at the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation Awards Presentation at Eastwood on the 5th January. The Federation has 45 member clubs. The Circle came second in the Club Trophy classes for Monochrome Prints and Slides.
In addition to Jim’s award, the Circle won two Selector’s choice awards, Jim Edmondson and Les Nixon, two Highly Commended, Keith Allchin and Les Nixon, and one Certificate of Merit for Les Nixon. The Circle had 29 acceptances out of a total entry of 100 from 9 members. The Exhibition is on view at Durban House Heritage Centre, Mansfield Road, Eastwood, Nottinghamshire until the 2nd February. Circle members have had many awards and acceptances during the last few years in Photographic Salons and exhibitions across the country and 2007 has been no exception with several gold medals and trophies. The Circle continues to build on its successful record as we enter the digital era for photography.
