Brilliant start to 2009 by Bakewell Photographic Circle

Seen here is Garry Wingrove, Chairman of the Bakewell Photographic Circle receiving the Hiscox Trophy on behalf of the Circle. This trophy was awarded for the best monochrome print panel of four images (photo) in the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation Annual exhibition. The Circle also came third in the Chesterfield Trophy for the best panel of colour prints.The Exhibition was officially opened by the Chairman of Mansfield District Council at the North & East Midlands Photographic Federation Awards Presentation at Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery on the 10th January. The Federation has 47 member clubs.

In addition to the Circle’s top award, Ian Daisley won the trophy for the best individual print panel. Hilary Tann won the award for the best natural history print (photo). The Circle won three Selector’s Choice awards, Jim Edmondson two and Ian Daisley one, Two highly commended for Garry Wingrove and Jim Edmondson, Two certificates of merit for Les Nixon and Keith Allchin. The Circle had 35 acceptances out of a total entry of 114 from 11 members.

The Exhibition is on view at Mansfield Museum and Art Gallery until the 7th February. The Circle has had many awards and acceptances during the last few years in Photographic Salons and exhibitions across the country including the London Salon and continues to build on its successful record as we enter the digital era for photography.

Bakewell photographers celebrate another year of success and welcome new members

Bakewell Photographic Circle’s Annual Dinner was held at the Wheatsheaf Hotel at Bakewell on the 18th May. 32 Members and guests attended and enjoyed a most entertaining evening, an exhibition of the trophy winning prints, a digital projected image show, and entertainment provided by Richard Corkill. Linda Dyson arranged the Dinner and thanks are due to the many members who helped to make the evening a success.

The Circle has just been presented with two new trophies by Meg Jullien, the Circle’s secretary – the Jullien Trophy, and Chris Swaap – the Bolehill Trophy, Both of them are to be presented for digital projected images and are both designed and made in pewter by Sheffield craft workers. The winner of the Jullien trophy was Rob Askew and the Bolehill trophy Ian Daisley the new Chairman (seen here being presented with the trophy by the retiring Chairman Garry Wingrove.).

The other trophies were won by Jim Edmondson, who won the Chairman’s Trophy for best colour prints, the Marchant Brooks Trophy for best monochrome prints, the Seville trophy for colour print of the year, the Whirlow Rose Bowl for monochrome print of the year, the D & B Carnelly trophy for the maximum points gained and the Kut Rite Rose bowl for the best colour print in the Theme competition., The Wright Trophy for the best monochrome print in the Theme competition was won by Garry Wingrove, the Rhoda Paget Rose Bowl for the best slide was won by Keith Alllchin and the Jubilee Rose Bowl for the best slide in the Theme competition was won by Les Nixon. Rob Askew won the won the newly presented Jullien trophy in the projected digital image section, and Ian Daisley won the newly presented Bolehill trophy for the best projected digital image in the Theme competition.The Committee’s award, the Mettam Memorial trophy, which is presented each year to the most promising new member and for services to the Circle, was won by Hilary Tann. Hilary won the Best Natural History award in the North and East Midlands Photographic FederationExhibition in January this year.

The Circle has enjoyed another successful year with many members exhibiting their images and winning awards at exhibitions throughout the country. The North and East Midlands Photographic Federation Hiscox trophy for monochrome prints was one of the most notable, and the Circle came third in the Chesterfield trophy for colour prints. The Circle entered 110 prints from eleven members and had 35 accepted, also winning nine major awards. The Federation has 47 member clubs. Altogether a very successful year and celebrated in style at the Annual Dinner. The Chairman for the last four years, Garry Wingrove retired, and Ian Daisley, the new Chairman took over the reins. Thanks were expressed to Garry for all his work over the years. Thanks were also expressed to Jim Edmondson for his weekly digital course at Over Haddon Village Hall which brings in many new members to the Circle.
